10 reasons not to buy an iPad

Here’s 10 things you might want to consider before buying an iPad:

  1. It doesn’t support Adobe Flash and most likely never will – therefore you’ll not experience the full web. Read Steve Job’s thoughts on Flash.
  2. No Bluetooth File Transfer Profile (OBEX FTP) – you won’t be able to transfer pictures or other media between other Bluetooth enabled devices.
  3. Micro SIM – the iPad uses a new smaller SIM card which no other device in the market uses. This means you’ll have no option but to pay out for using 3G data services.
  4. Apps are more expensive and if you already own an app for the iPhone or iPod Touch you’ll have to pay out if you want to use the iPad version.
  5. It’s not a standalone device – you’ll need an existing PC or Mac to use it.
  6. Thanks to the limited connectivity options, you can’t print from it nor can you import photos from a digital camera.
  7. The resolution is only 1028×768, which is not bad but could be better.
  8. No built-in camera
  9. Price – you can buy a decent laptop for less than £430 which will offer a lot more functionality, have a much higher technical spec and won’t have so many draconian restrictions.
  10. It’s closed. Apple will only let you do what they want you to do. All apps must be approved by them meaning they won’t let you use something which would damage their business model. They’ll always act in their own self interest restricting flexibility and choice for the consumer.
