Biography

David J Bell
I was born in Omagh, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. I received my earlier education at Gibson Primary School and Omagh Academy before reading Computer Science at Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge.

After graduating I worked on a KTP project in partnership with the University of Ulster and Hunter Apparel Solutions where I developed a number of in-house bespoke systems to improve process flows and reduce inefficiencies within the business. During the project I gained an MSc with Distinction from the University of Ulster and also obtained a Diploma in Management through the KTP program.

In June 2009, myself along with three friends raised over £3250 for the Ulster Cancer Foundation by taking part in a sponsored ascent of Ben Nevis.

In 2010 I applied for and successfully secured a place on the inaugural year of the US-NI Mentorship Program. The program aims to provide recent graduates from Northern Ireland with the opportunity to work in leading U.S. corporations and was established by the former U.S. Economic Envoy to Northern Ireland, Declan Kelly with the support of the American Ireland Fund and Northern Ireland Science Park. During my one year post I worked with AXA Equitable in New York City and added value to many significant projects for the company.

During my time in the USA I helped to design, implement and successfully launch the US-NI Mentorship website and enjoyed volunteering with Hands On New York. I also had the opportunity to travel, successfully squeezing in visits to 13 states with my three favourites being Colorado, California and North Carolina.

The experience I had has helped me to develop my business networking skills, improve my communication skills and boost my self-confidence. The program has also fuelled my entrepreneurial ambition to set up my own business in Northern Ireland so watch this space!

I currently hold professional memberships of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) and the British Computer Society (MBCS).

In my spare time I enjoy badminton, hillwalking, photography, technology and travelling.
